This is the fifth episode in a series. If you missed Episodes 1 to 4, then click here to read this story from the beginning.

Finding our light

After many years of travelling this road of loss, desperation, and hopelessness, we finally found light: on August 15, 2013 with the birth of our son William and on August 4, 2015 with the birth of our daughter Scarlett, making our family of four complete.

They are perfect and through their precious lives, I honour our journey and pay tribute to the children we lost.

What challenges you changes you

Infertility is common. It affects 1 in 8 individuals, myself included. I suffered through my pregnancy loss and infertility in silence, but have since learned that there is power in sharing my story. It connects people by normalizing the experience and underscores the different ways in which families come together. My loss changed me; it challenged me, my relationships, my outlook on love and life in the most acute ways. But, through my loss, I gained a fierce strength, a keen understanding of who I am and what I value and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t appreciate the things that I have.

Every step of my journey shaped the person I am today and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Please come back next Friday to watch the next episode, in which I talk about my children’s book, A Lemon Tree for Wilshire, including what it’s about and why I wrote it.
